HRI visited an informal internally displaced persons camp located in downtown Port-au-Prince, Haiti. When we arrived to assess the situation, we discovered the deplorable living conditions of up to 3,000 displaced persons - mostly women, children, and the elderly.

Saddened... Yet Hopeful

Dominique found Farel and 6 of her 7 children living on the streets of Les Cayes. She had been unable to pay the yearly rent of $300 for a tiny room they all shared, so the owner evicted them. Now, this 43 year old mother of 7, two of whom are twins under the age of two, are sleeping on the street.
