Maternal and child health is key to the growth and development of children and for the eventual economic growth of a country. In Haiti, most children are raised by single mothers and have little or no access to healthcare. HRI’s deworming program rids children of parasitic worms, which improves their capacity to absorb critical nutrients, ensures that parasites are not diminishing the benefits of their daily nutrition, and, as a result of better health, serves to improve school enrollment and attendance. Prenatal vitamins are essential for pregnant mothers, especially considering most are undernourished. HRI is building upon partnerships with other organizations such as Vitamin Angels and Hope for Haiti to ensure that local health clinics have the medical supplies, equipment and medications needed to ensure good basic healthcare for young children and pregnant mothers.

HRI is currently working with 18 clinics and 10 orphanages in and around the capital city of Port Au Prince, Carrefour and Croix des Bouquets.

NEW PROJECT:

In addition, HRI is actively seeking funding to install a solar-powered electrical systems in rural health clinics in southern Haiti. This project is part of a 2025 initiative to equip health centers with reliable, sustainable energy. By providing uninterrupted power, especially at night and during emergencies, we aim to improve maternal and neonatal care and reduce mortality rates. Each system powers lighting, medical equipment, and essential operations, serving at least 740 mothers and their newborns annually. The clinic will be located in one of the communities HRI serves through the 2025 World Food Program (WFP) Nutritional Support Program. HRI and WFP have identified this community as extremely high risk due to lack of nutrition, clean water, and medical care. Through this seed project, HRI seeks to create a sustainable model for improving healthcare infrastructure in rural regions, ultimately contributing to better health outcomes and the overall well-being of communities in southern Haiti.
