Meet Sara Pinzon from El Retiro, a remote village in Guatemala. She is a devoted mother of two girls in our school feeding program. Sara’s husband is a farmer, and their family lives in extreme poverty. Their home has a dirt floor, and they cook on a simple poyeton, a basic open-fire stove. Smoke stains the walls, and every meal carries serious risks—burns, respiratory illness, and long-term health problems, especially for Sara’s baby. You can help change that.
María Oralia de Paz is a widow who urgently needs knee surgery. The pain has made it increasingly difficult for her to walk and care for herself. Without this procedure, her mobility — and independence — will continue to decline.
Her neighbors are organizing to raise the full cost of the surgery themselves. Despite having very little, they are giving what they can. They recently reached out to us to ask HRI to help so María can receive the care she desperately needs.
The preschool in Plan de Ávila, Guatemala urgently needs child-sized classroom tables. The desks currently in use are too large, broken, and unsafe for preschoolers, causing discomfort and minor injuries. Providing sturdy, properly sized tables will create a safe, supportive environment where these young children can learn and thrive with dignity.

More critically, the route she must take passes through a gang-controlled area, placing her safety at risk.
