HRI visited an informal internally displaced persons camp located in downtown Port-au-Prince, Haiti. When we arrived to assess the situation, we discovered the deplorable living conditions of up to 3,000 displaced persons - mostly women, children, and the elderly.
Dominique found Farel and 6 of her 7 children living on the streets of Les Cayes. She had been unable to pay the yearly rent of $300 for a tiny room they all shared, so the owner evicted them. Now, this 43 year old mother of 7, two of whom are twins under the age of two, are sleeping on the street.
“HRI changed my family’s life with the latrine and school feeding program. Without a doubt, this is what we always wanted, but we could not provide anything with our meager income. But God is faithful and used HRI as an instrument for His work.”
