The HRI Board teams are back in the U.S. after trips to Guatemala and Haiti. These are exciting times for the organization and the leadership brought back several new areas for program expansion: a pre-school nutritional support program for children between 0-5 years of age in Guatemala and the addition of corn meal to the food basket in Haiti. The need is clear and the path is being laid for these essential additions to our nutrition programs. In addition, we are getting ready to launch a Life Skills program in both Guatemala and Haiti – these will initially focus on adolescent girls and women. These programs will concentrate on building self-esteem, helping girls and women to understand and take control of their bodies and futures, reproductive health education, child rearing practices and personal hygiene, to name a few.
